  • After the summer, the regional government wants to finance the renovation of empty homes in Ibiza that are intended for rental
On Friday, the Balearic Government's Department of Housing, Territory and Mobility told Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera that the announced measure to finance the renovation of empty homes in the Balearic Islands, which are to be used for rental purposes, is not yet in force. 'The idea is that it will be launched after the summer, probably in September, once the details have been finalised,' said the department in relation to this urgent housing and renting initiative. Empty homes that are uninhabitable due to disrepair may be eligible for the Balearic Government's Lloguer Segur programme, which will cover the cost of renovations. This is a measure whereby part of the amount received by the owner for renting out their property will be deducted. According to the Regional Ministry of Housing, the aim of this measure is to increase the number of properties that can be included in the programme, which currently only covers 48 owners across the Balearic Islands. Regarding Ibiza, these sources said that 'there is sti
  • Weekend of fires in Ibiza: three interventions in less than six hours
It was a busy weekend for the Ibiza Fire Station. At around 9.40pm on Saturday, a fire was reported at a laundrette on Calle Tarragona in Vila, Ses Figueretes. By the time the firefighters arrived, the fire had already been brought under control by staff using fire extinguishers. The laundrette, which was located on the ground floor with two entrances, was secured by closing one entrance to facilitate intervention, which was later reopened to allow ventilation. A young woman who lived in a nearby house was evacuated as a precautionary measure and treated by the 061 emergency service for mild intoxication. A team consisting of a corporal and three firefighters with a heavy urban pump confirmed that the fire may have started in a tumble dryer, close to a plastic waste bin, although the electrical panel could also have been involved. Fortunately, the premises did not suffer significant damage. Subsequently, firefighters were called to extinguish several burning containers on Gaspar Puig Street in Es Pratet. There
  • Drunk Ferrari driver gets into a fight on a boat to Ibiza
A new violent incident occurred last week during a boat trip to Ibiza. According to a statement issued by the Ibiza Local Police on Monday, officers were alerted by Astilleros to an altercation involving three 'very violent' individuals. The crew restrained the individuals until the local police arrived, as the aggressiveness of those detained made their assistance necessary. Once the ship had docked, local police officers, supported by National Police officers and a Mobile Brigade agent, went up to the hold where one of the individuals involved in the fight was located. This individual, the owner of a Ferrari, was 'very agitated' and was blocking the exit for vehicles and passengers. Upon identifying him, the officers noticed clear signs of intoxication, so administered a breathalyser test which showed a reading of 1.01 mg/l. The man's vehicle was removed from the scene and taken to the municipal impound lot. Meanwhile, the officers mediated between the parties in order to calm the situation down and enable
