  • The fee of 16,000 rental cars in Ibiza has already been reached
On Wednesday, the island's councillor for Tourism Planning, Mariano Juan, confirmed that the maximum quota of 16,000 rental vehicles authorised to circulate around Ibiza had already been exceeded this summer. He also warned that the maximum of 4,108 authorisations for private vehicles travelling by boat could be reached in August. Mr Juan explained that there have so far been peaks of between 3,000 and 3,200 applications per day from private individuals, representing 75% of the total permitted. «We are not yet at the peak of the season, but we cannot rule out the possibility of reaching the maximum during August,» said Juan. He stressed that the tendency to plan trips at the last minute makes projections difficult, although forecasts indicate this possible congestion. Regarding the platform set up by the Consell to control vehicle access to the island, Juan confirmed that the website is functioning correctly, although it is not yet fully automated. For the time being, shipping companies send data on tickets pu
  • Nana Marina Cruz visits Ibiza: Mayan Ceremony at Las Dalias
On 22 July, Nana Marina Cruz, an Ajq'iij (spiritual guide) from the Tz'utujil Mayan community, will arrive in Ibiza with some of her family to share her ancestral healing practices. Hailing from San Pedro La Laguna on the shores of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, Nana Marina is a healer and teacher of the Mayan calendar, as well as a facilitator of traditional ceremonies involving fire, cacao, temazcal and tobacco. It is a great honour to welcome her, as she is the bearer of a spiritual lineage passed down by her father, the revered Tata Pedro Cruz. She is also an active advocate for indigenous culture and rights. Alongside her spiritual work, she runs community projects to preserve traditions and promote wellbeing for her people. The Living Altar at Las Dalias As part of the event, the Las Dalias Night Market will host a unique ceremonial encounter: 'The Living Altar of the Tz'utujiles', offering an insight into Mayan cosmology and providing an opportunity to connect with the body, spirit and energy of fire. • Shantytowns in Ibiza: a score of people sleep outside the first Can Rova
Several people who have not had access to any of the benefits offered by Social Services, for one reason or another, spend the first night after eviction in the open. Some of them have tents, which they set up for the occasion, while others improvise as best they can. Others set up their mattresses directly on the ground next to the tent and tried to find shelter from the tropical night air with a fan. Some slept in their cars, which they left for work early the next morning. Interestingly, this makeshift settlement is located just a few metres from the entrance to the original Can Rova settlement. They spent the first nights after last year's eviction there, before moving to the land that would later become Can Rova 2. Now, they have returned to spend the night. By mid-morning on Wednesday, there were around seven people in the tent, including adults and children. There were two mothers who looked after their children and a man who slept inside the tent. They call him when they need him to work. Some days he d
  • A lorry loaded with hashish is caught in the port of Ibiza on its way to Valencia
Second truck loaded with drugs in the last two weeks caught in the port of Ibiza. On Thursday morning, Guardia Civil officers caught a lorry in the port of Ibiza that was attempting to board a ferry bound for Valencia. According to what the Guardia Civil confirmed to Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera on Thursday, the lorry was loaded with bales of hashish. The total quantity is not known at the moment. This is the second lorry that tried to leave Ibiza for the port of Valencia loaded with drugs. The first was on July 9th and, in this case, it did manage to leave Ibiza for Valencia, but the driver, a 53-year-old Spaniard, was arrested as soon as he disembarked at the port of Valencia. This vehicle was carrying 675 kilos of cocaine. On Wednesday July 9th, as part of ‘Operación Verano’, which is being carried out jointly by the National Police, the Guardia Civil and the Agencia Tributaria, random checks were carried out in the port of Valencia. There, the agents, after an exhaustive prior risk analysis, select
  • Caravans and motorhomes return to this park and ride site in Ibiza
Once again, caravans and motorhomes are the predominant feature in the Sa Jovería car park. This is a place whose entrance is closed to the public by a metal rope, preventing all types of vehicles from entering. This new proliferation is directly related to the eviction of the Es Gorg car park by Vila Town Hall on Monday 7 July. Following this eviction, many people moved their mobile homes to the Sa Jovería car park. On the same day, the barrier preventing these vehicles from entering the car park was raised. The fact that the settlement of Sa Jovería has proliferated again after the eviction of Es Gorg is somewhat ironic, considering that the settlement of Es Gorg began to expand precisely when the Sa Jovería gates were installed. After its initial expansion, which made it one of the first settlements, the installation of these elements that prevented the entry of caravans and motorhomes meant that barely twenty people continued to reside in the area. This contrasts radically with the site's current image.
