  • Portinatx enjoys the celebration of the Virgen del Carmen in style
For a town with such a maritime connection as Portinatx, the festivity of Carmen's Day has a very special symbolism. And so it has made itself felt with this Sunday's celebration. The celebration began at 7 p.m. with mass sung by the Sant Joan de Labritja choir in the chapel of Portinatx. Once the mass was over, and after the imposition of the scapulars - a devotional object - a small parade was held. At eight o'clock, one of the most eagerly awaited moments for the attendees arrived, and the Virgen del Carmen left the Portinatx chapel to embark. For about 45 minutes, the patron saint of the sea sailed in homage to all those who dedicate their lives to the sea and in recognition of those who have lost their lives at sea. After the procession, the Virgin returned to the chapel accompanied by the music and dance of Sa Colla de Labritja.

The Capitanía Marítima of Ibiza has imposed a fine of 200,000 euros on the owner of the megayacht ‘Attila’, which ran aground off the beach of es Pujols, in Formentera, on the first of July. The fine was imposed for dangerous navigation close to the coast, in addition to disregarding the requirements of the Capitanía Marítima. Although the vessel unchained by its own means, as this newspaper have already reported in this, the Maritime Captaincy had requested the provisional retention of the vessel for sailing close to the coast, a manoeuvre considered dangerous, especially on a beach crowded with bathers such as that of es Pujols. In addition, the Capitanía Marítima had asked the shipowner for a refloating plan and an inspection of the case to check the safety measures of the vessel, valued at more than 70 million euros. This request was ignored, which increased the amount of the fine.
  • Neighbours of Ibiza report pestilent dumping in the Sa Llavanera torrent
The Sa Llavanera torrent, in the vicinity of the old water treatment plant, has been discharging water since last Friday with an unbearable odour, according to complaints from neighbours and shopkeepers in the area. This Monday, Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera was able to verify in situ the presence of this flow of water and the strong stench emanating from the channel. José Manuel, a nearby resident, assures that «today (Monday) it's nothing, on Saturday and Sunday you couldn't be around here». The resident points directly to the old sewage treatment plant, located a short distance away, as a possible source of the problem: «I don't know what they do at the treatment plant, but every so often this water comes out of there». Unrest in the shops Javier, another affected neighbour, shares a similar perception. He says that this situation has been repeated several times in recent months. «We thought this problem was a thing of the past, but now we see that it is not. This is the third or fourth time it has
